Do you have to squint in order to recognize someone waving at you from across the street? If you do, you are not alone. not just that, but many more are having the same problem every day. Based on a recent researched study that was funded by the National Center for Health Statistics, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Eye Institute, the presence of myopia, also known as nearsightedness, has considerably increased over the span of the last 30 years.
The data shows an increase in nearsightedness among Americans aged 12 to 54 is risen from 25 percent in the 1970s to a whopping 41 percent this decade. Wow, that is an increase 66 PERCENT!
What is nearsightedness?
If you are nearsighted then your eyes are focusing incorrectly, and thereby causing distant objects to appear blurred. And, that is why you will squint at far away objects. This action is actually where the greek word “myopia” came from, meaning “shut” “eye”. Greek words: myein, means “shut” and ops, meaning “eye.”

What causes nearsightedness?
It seems that some of myopia can be in the genes, much of it is also caused by environmental factors, and these can play a significant role.
A traumatic effect on children
And yes, the rise of nearsightedness is alarming, it is even more alarming in the case of children.
One issue is that, even though the CDC estimates that there are about 12 million American children of school age that have vision problems, only one third actually receive eye care before they reach 6 years old.
The National Eye Institute has plans to dedicate $10 for future studies to figure out why the big rise in myopia. The Rebuild Your Vision Program is about eye exams about following a solid program of eye exercises; about eating nutritious food and supplementing with the Ocu-Plus Formula; And, don’t forget exercise, it’s good for body, soul and eyes !
