1 out of 6 adults will have eye vision problems that will affect their vision. This risk increases with age. An American Academy of Ophthalmology recent reports states that 43+ million In America will develop some kind of age-related eye / vision disease by 2020. That’s a lot of people with eye problems.

To protect yourself against vision problems, and to promote eye health, here are some tips:
1 Become aware of your personal risks. Find out your family history concerning eye disease. Talk to your eye doctor about your risks, what they are. Some eye problems are related to genetics, some to history, environment, even race. Find out.
2 Go to the doctor regularly, and watch for diabetes and blood pressure. These two health problems, diseases will cause you eye problems. Check them with your doctor.
3 Be on the alert for vision / eye changes. Call your eye doctor immediately if you notice any major changes. Changes such as: double vision, or hazy vision, or difficulty in seeing in low light. Other symptoms / signs are: flashes of light, or floaters, or pain in the eye, swelling of the eye. Any symptoms like these, and head out to see your eye professional immediately. These can all be serious eye conditions, and the sooner you have it looked after, the better the treatment will work out for you.
4 Exercise on a regular basis. And yes, the professionals have determined that exercise, like walking, bicycling, swimming help decrease your risk of age related macular degeneration.
5 Protect yourself, and your eyes against the sun. The proper sunglasses are a necessity both in summer and winter. The sun can do a lot of damage to your eyes.
6 Eat healthy, dump the junk and drink lots of water. Many studies show that antioxidants will reduce the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. These antioxidants come from eating a variety of colored vegetables and fruit. And, taking Omega 3 Fish Oil Supplements, those wonderful fatty acids can also help decrease your risk of macular degeneration.
7 Do NOT smoke. Do not start to smoke, and quit if you are smoking. Many eye specialists will tell you the risk to your eye health when you smoke!! The risk for macular degeneration and cataracts are increased when you smoke.
