Just think of this, OVER 250 million people have some form of visual impairment. This is according to the WHO (World Health Organization). Of these, OVER 60% of these vision problems could have been prevented, or diminished.
This is the reason WHY REGULAR VISITS WITH YOUR EYE DOCTOR ARE SO IMPORTANT. Eye doctors can find issues at the very beginning, BEFORE you even realize there is a problem. Eye doctors can also help you determine any genetic vision diseases you may have a risk for.
That said, some people will start to notice symptoms. Symptoms like a change in vision or pain in the eye, sudden blurriness, these will need immediate medical, professional attention. And don’t wait to see a doctor. Go right away.
Symptoms such as:
1 Floaters (those spots or “birds” floating around your vision),
2 Flashing lights,
3 Shadows, blind spots that appear in your vision, or grey areas, or
4 If you have a feeling of a curtain floating down on your vision,
These could be a sign of your retina detaching, and you need to see a doctor immediately.
5 ANY vision loss, especially if it is a sudden onset. This happened to a friend of mine, from one moment to the next, she lost her vision in one eye. She was diagnosed with glaucoma. There could be other very serious conditions that could cause this. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY.
6 Of course, if you injured your eye, go to a medical professional!
7 If you have 2 red eyes, it’s probably pink eye. But, one red eye could be a more serious inflammation problem.
8 Are you a contact lens wearer? If yes, then see your eye doctor if you experience discomfort.
9 If you experience blurred vision…see a doctor (even if it clears up). Blurred vision can be caused by so many serious health issues.
Our eyes are so precious to us. Let’s not treat any symptoms lightly, and make sure we see our eye doctor regularly.
