But, she was shocked when the eye doctor told her NO, not with this type of glaucoma, you won’t go blind. Wow, what a relief!

So, what’s the lesson? GO TO YOUR EYE DOCTOR ON A REGULAR BASIS!!!!

The most common type of glaucoma — primary open-angle glaucoma — causes tunnel vision and loss of side vision, but only in the advanced stages of the disease.
To detect glaucoma early, consult your eye doctor for regular eye exams. Seek immediate medical attention if you have severe eye pain or other signs and symptoms of glaucoma. Treatment options may include medication, laser therapy or surgery.

You usually don’t feel anything is wrong with you while the majority of the damage is being done. Luckily, blurred vision caused by stress is not only curable; it can be done without spending hordes of money or going through risky and painful procedures.

Even as you’re reading this, your eyes are in a kind of stressed condition. You may or may not be able to “feel” the strain on your eyes from looking at the computer screen, but if you sit in front of your computer for any length of time each and every day, your eyes will eventually ‘adapt’ themselves to the point of losing their ability to focus on distant objects. The result is Myopia, better known as near-sightedness. There is also “Near Point Stress” totally related to this.

Not only have they worked great for my personally, as well as countless others who have tried out the program.

If you are reading this while wearing glasses or contacts, or just want to learn more about how to maintain and preserve healthy vision to counteract the effects of starting at computer monitors and televisions all day, be sure to learn how to improve your vision without surgery.

Reading

Yes, reading a book, newspaper, or anything up close can make your vision permanently worse!

“Myopia” or nearsightedness (the inability to see distant objects clearly) now affects more than 30% of the U.S. population.

The leading cause of its progression: “Near-Point Stress” – a condition that’s highly preventable.

Although most of the time you don’t feel the damage being done, I’m sure you’ve felt near point stress. It’s the pain and discomfort in your eyes after hours of reading, studying, or any prolonged close vision activity.

The American Optometric Association defines the cause of nearsightedness as follows:

“There is also growing evidence that nearsightedness may be caused by the stress of too much close vision work.
It normally first occurs in school age children. Since the eye continues to grow during childhood, nearsightedness generally develops before age 20…”

-American Optometric Association

Here it is – plain as vanilla – the American Optometric Association telling you that too much close vision work causes over 30% of the U.S. population to wear glasses.

Think about everyone you know that wears glasses or contacts (for distance vision). These people very likely:

* Are educated (lots of studying = near point stress).
* Have a job that requires a lot of time on the computer (another near point stress).
* Or, may simply be intently focused individuals who engage themselves in a project, book, or video game for hours upon hours without ever looking up. (Any
prolonged near point activity can cause near point stress).

Close vision work is now a part of our daily lives. We cannot change that.

But…

Learn How to Improve Your Eyesight
See Clearly Naturally – Try It Now!

You don’t need to eliminate close vision work to eliminate near point stress and its associated effects! You simply need to learn how to do close vision work properly – something most people will never bother to do.

If you have time to read this story from Dr Bates, you will see that already almost 100 years ago, eye exercises and naturally improving vision was practiced. This is from Dr Bates magazine: Better Eyesight:

I was only eight years old when the teacher told me that I couldn’t come to school if I didn’t get glasses. So, of course; I had to get them, and of course, I hated them. They kept me out of all the games that a boy really likes, such as baseball, and they made me terribly self-conscious.

Every little while I had to get new and stronger glasses. They were changed eight times in the course of the next nine years, by the end of which time I had what the spets pronounced to be a very bad case of progressive myopia. After that I refused to make any more changes, for I had lost faith in glasses and wasn’t interested in trying new ones.

Although my eyes kept getting worse all the time, and the spets said there wasn’t a chance of a cure, I always felt sure that sometime I would find a cure, and I tried and investigated everything that seemed to offer any hope of relief. One spet said that while I couldn’t be cured, it would help me to live out of doors. So I gave up my job as a telegrapher, went West and got work in the open air. It didn’t do me a bit of good.

Then I went in for physical culture; but, while this improved my general health, it didn’t help my eyes. I tried osteopathy and chiropractic, but they didn’t help either. I read all the literature on the subject that T could find, and the invariable assertion of the authorities that my condition was hopeless did not shake my conviction to the contrary. I even made a trip to Rochester, Minnesota, for the sake of visiting the famous Mayo Clinic, where I expected to find all medical wisdom concentrated.

All I got was a prescription for a stronger pair of glasses and a confirmation of the statements of my previous medical advisors, and of the medical books, that myopia was incurable. I remained unconvinced, however.

I now happened to run across an article in the Literary Digest about a method of curing shortsight by squeezing the eyeball, said to have been used successfully to Paris. I wrote for further information but was told that the article was merely a reprint from La Nature and that the office knew nothing more about low price it.

The editor suggested, however, that I write to Dr. Bates who was making a special study of this problem. I had already heard of Dr. Bates through another source, and I lost no time in following this advice. He assured me that my condition was curable, and as I did not want to go to the expense of going to New York I asked him if he could treat me by correspondence. He replied that while he had cured many patients by correspondence, such treatment was slow and at a little uncertain, and in a case as serious as mine had better not be relied upon.

As soon as I was able, therefore, I gathered together all the money that I had and went to New York, in spite of a tremendous amount of opposition and no encouragement whatever. Every doctor and every layman to whom I mentioned my purpose said I was crazy to suppose that shortsight could be cured, when all the books said it was incurable.

My brother, who is an optician, was so strong in his opposition that I don’t think I should ever have got to New York if I hadn’t pretended that I was going for some purpose other than the real one—and even after I got there and was able to write to him that my sight was improving, he kept urging me to come home, telling me that any man who pretended to cure shortsight must be a quack, and that if I imagined I was getting any benefit it was because I had been hypnotized.

I arrived in New York on December 17, 1919, and went at once to Dr. Bates. When my eyes were tested with the Snellen test card, I found that at twenty feet I could see only the large letter at the top. I could read large print at five and a half inches, but could not read it any nearer or any farther, and could not see diamond type distinctly at any point.

I put in six hours a day at the office, practicing constantly with the Snellen test card, and at first found it rather discouraging and tiresome. When I tried to palm I saw all the colors of the rainbow instead of black. As I could not see anything perfectly, either at the near-point or the distance, I could not remember anything I saw perfectly. Even my own signature I was unable to visualize. Neither could I imagine that the letters on the card were moving when I shifted from one to another, or from one side of a letter to another.

At the end of a week, however, I succeeded in getting the swing, becoming able to imagine not only that the letters on the card were swinging, but that my body and everything that I thought of was swinging also. This universal swing soon established itself so thoroughly that I was unable to stop it and the Doctor had to tell me how. I did it by stating at a letter of fine print for a few seconds. After this things began, to go better. As long as I imagined the universal swing I could see black when I palmed and remember it with my eyes open.

When I imagined it on the street it was as if a fog had lifted, or the sun had come out from behind a cloud. My sight improved rapidly, and I began to find the practice extremely interesting. I never got bored or sleepy, and, in fact, never had such a good time in my life. Besides improving my sight the swing did many other things for me. I had never done any running before coming to New York, but I now began to experiment with that, form of exercise, not expecting in the least to distinguish myself. In a week, however,

I was able to run eleven miles, without fatigue or loss of breath, and without even feeling sore or stiff afterward. This I attributed to the swing, which I kept up all the time I was running. When I did not do this, I quickly became tired. One day I had to visit a chiropodist to have an ingrowing nail treated. The first touch was excruciatingly painful.

Then the chiropodist turned away to get an instrument, and I began to swing. When he resumed work I felt no pain, and the operation was finished painlessly. Even loneliness seemed to flee before this imaginary rhythmical movement, and it has now become so necessary to my existence that I would even be willing to go back to the hated glasses rather than be without it.

When I left New York on December 31 I was able to make out some of the letters on the bottom line of the test card at twenty feet and to read diamond type ^.t from four to eighteen inches, while my eyes, which had previously been inflamed and partly closed, were clear and wide open. Incidentally my memory, which had previously been so poor as to cause me great inconvenience, and for which I had taken several memory courses in vain, had improved as much as my eyesight.

“Minus lenses are the most common approach, yet the least likely to prevent further myopic (nearsighted) progression. Unfortunately, they increase the near-point stress that is associated with progression.”

-B. May, OEP Publications

“The emphasis on compensatory lenses has posed a problem for many years in our examinations. These lenses do not correct anything and may not serve the patient in his best interests over a period of time.”

-CJ. Forkiortis, OEP Curriculum

“Single-vision minus lenses for full-time use produce accommodative insufficiency associated with additional symptoms until the patient gets used to the lens. This is usually accompanied by a further increase in myopia and the cycle begins anew.”

-M.H. Birnbaum, Review of Optometry.

Now, glasses are a great fix for many people, but the fact is they are a crutch. Glasses do not repair your vision. They simply put a band-aid over the condition.

Have you ever gone in for an eye-exam and had the doctor say: “great news, your vision improved another 2 diopters. Looks like you need a lower prescription.”

I didn’t think so!

Glasses are a “prescription,” and like any prescription drug, they can be abused. You must learn how to use your glasses as a tool to help rehabilitate your eyesight, rather than continue to contribute to its deterioration.

Glaucoma is the second most common cause of vision loss in the United States, affecting approximately 3 million Americans. Not one disease, but actually a group of them, glaucoma results when abnormally high pressure inside the eyeball damages the optic nerve.

The optic nerve is like a big electric cable made up of thonds of individual wires carrying the images you see from the retina to your brain. When the optic nerve deteriorates, blind spots develop in your visual field, starting with your peripheral (side) vision. If left untreated, glaucoma may lead to blindness in both eyes.

Andrea Bocelli, the Italian opera singer, and Ray Charles, the R&B singer, both developed glaucoma as children, and both are blind from the disease. Childhood glaucoma (also known as congenital glaucoma) is usually diagnosed within the first year of life. It is a rare condition that may be inherited and is caused by incorrect or incomplete development of the eye’s drainage canals during the prenatal period.

The most common form of glaucoma is primary glaucoma. Minnesota Twins Hall-of-Famer Kirby Puckett was forced to retire from baseball when he developed primary glaucoma, resulting in damage to the vision in his right eye.

Primary glaucoma may be divided into two types: open angle and closed angle. Open angle is the type seen most frequently in the United States. According to the Glaucoma Research Foundation (GRF), it occurs when the eye’s drainage canals become clogged over time. It is usually detected in its early stages during routine eye examinations.

Closed angle glaucoma, also called acute glaucoma, has a sudden onset in people with anatomically narrow angles. It is characterized by severe eye pain and blurred vision. According to the GRF, eye pressure increases very quickly because “the drainage canals get blocked or covered over” with closed angle glaucoma.
The Thief of Sight

Glaucoma is sometimes called “the silent thief,” slowly stealing your sight before you realize anything’s wrong. Patients’ vision fails so gradually, giving no warning signs, that they may not even be aware they have an eye problem until their vision is extensively damaged.

According to Prevent Blindness America, risk factors for developing glaucoma include:

Age: People aged 40 and older prescription are more likely to develop glaucoma.
Family history: Those with parents or siblings who have glaucoma are more likely to develop the disease.
Race: People of African or Afro-Caribbean heritage are four to five times more at risk for glaucoma than the rest of the population and are more likely to develop it at an early age.
Diabetes: People with diabetes have a higher risk of developing glaucoma.
Myopia: People who are very nearsighted are at greater risk.
Eye injury or surgery: Those who have had eye surgery or eye injuries may develop secondary glaucoma.
Steroid use: When used for extended periods of time, steroids may increase the risk of glaucoma.

Fortunately, only a small percentage of people with the disease lose their sight. While there is no cure for glaucoma, recent medical advances have made it easier to diagnose and treat.
Prevention and Treatment

Studies show regular aerobic exercise and a diet low in saturated fats may prevent the vascular constriction that leads to glaucoma. There have also been many studies supporting specific vitamin supplements that can help prevent the condition (see for more specific information on these supplements)

According to the Glaucoma Foundation, however, the most important thing you can do to protect your vision from glaucoma is to have regular eye exams. Anyone older than 35 should have tonometry, a method of measuring the pressure of the eye by measuring the tone or firmness of its surface, and eye examinations every two years. More frequent examination is recommended for people who have any of the risk factors mentioned above.

Improve Glaucoma Naturally…”

Results from the Ocular Hypertension Treatment Study show that prescribing drugs that lower the pressure in moderate- to high-risk patients’ eyes can actually prevent cases of ocular hypertension from developing into full-blown glaucoma. A surgery called laser iridotomy, as well as eyedrops and other medications, can help prevent acute attacks in high-risk patients.

Don’t let the “thief of sight” rob you blind – prevention and early detection is the key!
