UV Rays and Sunglasses

All the talk about the pool and beach you must be ready to go play in the sun.

We’ll remind you that the risk to eyes from sunlight is higher around water or pavement, both of which reflect UV radiation. Wear sunglasses! As the American Red Cross says, sunglasses are like sunscreen for your eyes and protect against damage that can occur from UV rays.

Did you know that light from the sun can bleach the retina’s photosensitive pigments, causing temporary blindness?

Damage to your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays is cumulative and can cause pteryguim (tissue growth on the whites of the eyes that can diminish vision) and age-related macular degeneration (deterioration of a part of the retina).
