Hidden Lake

1. First up – sleep. Yes you probably need more sleep.

Many people are actually getting short changed by 60-90 minutes of sleep a night.  And, napping does not compensate for the loss.

Serious sleep disorders are linked to hypertension and increased stress, even increased hormone levels that could lead to cardiac arrhythmias.

2. Drink more water.  Yeah, Yeah, you say, but, we used to get enough water in our veggies and fruit, but, since our eating habits have changed, we need to drink more. Water is the most necessary nutrient for your body.

So, what’s this got to do with your eyes you ask?  A lack of water leads to dehydration and inadequate lubrication of your eyes.

So if your eyes start looking red, feel irritated, become itchy you know you may just need more water.

3. Make sure you wear sunglasses as they are one of the best ways to protect your eyes. Too much exposure to ultra violet rays can lead to cataracts, macular degeneration or skin cancer around your eyes.

4. I know it’s easy said, but, you need to control and manage your stress.  Yes, stress can have a big impact on your vision.

5. Practice the 10-10-10 rule while at your computer or when reading.

Here’s what you. Every time you are performing close vision work for over 10 minutes, look up and focus on an object at least 10 feet away…AND for 10 seconds.  Hence the 10-10-10 rule :)

This simple rule could save your eyesight.

6. Do your eye exercises.

7. Take a good daily vitamin.
