Coping With Disaster Tip 1
Filed Under Vision Information | Leave a Comment
For many people, summer is not only the season for beaches and barbecues, but also hurricanes, thunderstorms, and other exhibits of Mother Nature’s might. During these events-as Hurricane Katrina so powerfully reminded us-citizens could find themselves in an emergency situation where medical aid is unavailable for days or even weeks. If you have eye problems, what can you do when disaster strikes?

Keep an emergency kit handy. [tag]Coping With Disaster[/tag]Tip 1 of 6
Says Celeste, a manager at The Eye Institute, of Hurricane Katrina: “The newspapers [were] filled with stories of people who were evacuated with just the clothes on their back; glasses, contacts and medication were either left behind or forgotten in the chaos.” The loss of eyeglasses or contact lenses during a disaster can for many people equal near blindness, impacting your chances of survival-a compelling reason to follow the Rebuild Your Vision program! If you’ve just started the program, however, you will want to add a spare pair of glasses to your emergency kit, which should also include bottled water, first-aid supplies, and any medications.
Keep the kit in an easily accessible place-perhaps even by your bedside. Remember, Katrina hit during the middle of the night, so choose a place you can find even in the dark.

Special Vision Tip of the Month - Advanced In and Out Exercise
This great tip came to us from a dedicated Rebuild Your Vision Customer: http://www.your-vision-care.com
“Hi all, I’ve slipped another variation for the In and Out exercise into my routine that seems to be stimulating my eyes. I hang my eye chart on a sliding glass door and glance from the close up card to the chart and then out the window to something further away. Then a shift my focus back to the eye chart and then back to the card in my hand. This helps me work on extending my distance of vision. I’m thinking of putting an enlarged eye chart on the garden wall so I have something specific to focus on out there.”
