Reduce Computer Eyestrain and Improve Eyesight
I work at the computer, so I stare at a screen for long periods at a time. Staring, or focusing on one area, like a monitor, a game, a TV screen for long periods of time is “near point stress” on your eyes. Eye doctors will point out this is NOT good for your eye health because:
1.You are having very small, repeated eye movements. (You need to take a break and look at a scene farther away in the distance).
2. Our eyes can become way to used to staring at a small space, nearby (like at arms length)
3. When we are starting at a monitor, our blink rate decreases, up to 70%. Blinking is good for our eyes.
There are things we can do to improve eyesight!
1. Stop staring for long periods of time. Look at something else, let your eyes roam around…. Refocus. Try to do this at least every 15 minutes. Just stop for a few minutes and let your eyes roam.
2. To relax your eyes, heat the palm of your hands (like, not hot, ok) and then gently surround your eyes with the warm palms. This is a great way of relaxation.
3. If there is nothing interesting to look at (away from your screen) – then close your eyes, again, put your palms over your eyes, and gently move your eyeballs as if you were following the hands of a large clock. This will also help.
And, remember, this is not medical advice, nor is it a diagnosis
