Here Are 3 Vegetables To Help Your Eye Health
When it comes to your eyes and the vegetables that are good for your eyes, most people will answer carrots. And yes, that is very true, but, it’s not the only veggie that is good for your eyes. There are other fruits and vegetables that will enhance your eyesight and they will also be good for your heart. So, here are three vision-boosting vegetables: spinach, kale, and sweet potatoes. And, don’t forget, there are others, but, for now, let’s discover these.
Spinach
According to the American Optometric Association’s 2008 American Eye-Q survey, they have
discovered that only 29% of Americans actually use nutrition as a tool to deal with vision loss or other eye problems. Actually, I am surprised that this number is so high to tell you the truth. Very few people think of vitamins or minerals as being good for the eyes (other than carrots, of course)
This survey shows, and it is no surprise, that most Americans still think the good old carrot is best for your eyes. But spinach and other dark, leafy greens, like Kale (I know that for years already being European born) prove to be one of the healthiest foods for eyes. These vegetable naturally contain large amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, two antioxidants essential to good vision.
Spinach actually has virtually the same amount of beta carotene as carrots, it does have more lutein and more zeaxanthin. These reduce the risk for age-related macular degeneration, which affects approximately 43 million Americans.
Spinach also helps decrease the risk for forming cataracts in the eye.
