Having trouble seeing while driving at night?
Before you have your eyes checked, clean your headlights.
“Your night vision can be reduced by as much as 90% by dirty headlights,” says Road & Travel magazine. Day-to-day driving exposes headlights to the elements and pollutants; heating and cooling of the plastic lenses trap dust and dirt. Most people remember to clean their windshield, but headlights are generally ignored.
It’s a good idea to wipe down your headlights every time you wash your windshield.

Vision Tip of the Month: How To See Better At Night
Rhodopsin, also known as visual purple, is a pigment of the retina that is responsible for both the formation of the photoreceptor cells and the first events in the perception of light.
Rhodopsin is extremely sensitive to light, enabling vision in low-light conditions. For maximum clarity at night, do not expose yourself to bright light for at least a half hour. Exposed to light, rhodopsin immediately photobleaches and it takes about 30 minutes to regenerate fully.
Vision Fact of the Month
•In a normal life-span, your eyes will bring you almost 24 million images of the world around you.
•Your eyes can process 36,000 bits of information every hour.

Unlike animals, human vision is generally not as keen at night. Cats, for instance, see well at night because they have more rods than cones in their retinas, unlike humans. (Rods are the receptors that the eye uses for nighttime vision.)
